Safety Planning & Tips
Your safety is our number one priority.
If your home feels unsafe and you have some time to prepare, we recommend:
-
Identifying safe areas in your home and planning possible exit routes.
-
Sharing your situation and safety plan with someone you trust, if it feels safe to do so.
-
Preparing a small grab bag with essentials such as ID, medications, keys, phone numbers, important documents, and bank information. If you can, store this bag outside of your home.
-
Prioritizing immediate safety by calling 911 in response to violent behaviour.
If you need to leave quickly, please come as you are. Our emergency shelter can provide you with basic necessities and support with transportation to the shelter.
We are here 24/7 to help you create a safety plan that fits your situation, your needs, and your pace.

-
Avoid saving sensitive information on shared devices
-
Use phone calls instead of text or email for private conversations
-
Change passwords regularly and avoid easily guessable information
Recognizing danger signs
Understanding the cycle of violence, how it repeats, and how it increases in frequency and intensity is a key element of safety planning.
The Government of Manitoba has developed an excellent guide to understanding intimate partner violence and how to move forward.
